Evaporator Coil
A little known part of your HVAC system that you couldn't live without.

What is an evaporator coil?

Many homeowners would be hard pressed to tell you what an evaporator coil was, and why they needed one. Yet without this equipment, your air conditioner would be useless. An evaporator coil houses the indoor coil that an air conditioner (or heat pump) sends chilled refrigerant too. The indoor coil is a series of copper tubing. Without an indoor coil, an air conditioner would have no way of cooling your home.

How air conditioning works.

An air conditioner compresses refrigerant which chills it. The chilled refrigerant is then sent inside to the evaporator coil which creates a wall of frigid piping. The fan motor in the furnace then pulls warm air from the home via the return air duct, and forces this air through the chilled coil. This in turn not only cools, but dehumidifiers the air.

Indoor air quality & efficiency.

As you can imagine, with water condensating in the dark interior of an evaporator coil, it is an ideal breeding ground for mold. If mold grows on the coil system it will decrease your air conditioning efficiency and also run the risk of introducing mold spores into the air you breath. A UV lamp installed inside the evaporator coil with kill this mold and prevent it from growing.
