Gas Furnace
A gas furnace is king for providing toasty warm, efficient heating for chilly Chicagoland winter season.
How a gas furnace heats your home.
When your house is cold, and the thermostat registers that warm air is needed, flames ignite inside a gas furnace to heat up a metal grid-like item called a heat exchanger. Then the fan motor in the furnace turns on and begins pulling air from inside your home via the return air duct. This air is then forced through the hot heat exchanger, which heats the air. The same fan motor then continues pushing the heated air on into your ductwork. What is hybrid heating?
Hybrid heating is a term that describes heating with the combination of an electric heat pump, and a gas furnace. At mild winter temperatures, an electric heat pump can be more efficient at heating than a gas furnace. When the temperature drops to cold however, a gas furnace is less expensive to run. The heat pump and furnace combo will switch off and on depending on the outside temperature, so that you are heating your home with the least expensive method.Things to consider about a gas furnace.
The efficiency of a gas furnace is measured using an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating. This measures how much of the gas is converted to actual heat, and how much is wasted. Modern gas furnaces can hit in the high 95+ AFUE area in the top models.A whole house humidifier is a life saver for our dry winters. When heating your home, a furnace blasts out even more moisture out of the already dry air, creating dry skin and even causing damage to wooden items in your home. A whole house humidifier integrates into your system, and restores the needed moisture levels, making your home feel much more comfortable.
